Hostinger OpenClaw (2026): Managed vs VPS, Pricing & Setup

Short answer: Hostinger sells OpenClaw two ways — a managed 1-click plan that has your agent running in about a minute with no server skills needed, or a self-hosted Docker template on a KVM VPS for full control. The managed plan is the better pick for almost everyone who just wants an AI agent that works; the VPS route is for people who want root access and full control over updates and security. What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is an open-source (MIT license), self-hosted AI assistant framework created by Peter Steinberger in late 2025. It connects a language model of your choice — Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, or a local model — to messaging apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, and Signal, plus files, a browser, and tools through plugins called “skills”. You bring your own model; OpenClaw provides the glue that turns that model into an agent that can actually do things.

The project had a bumpy naming history: it started as “Clawdbot”, was renamed “Moltbot” on January 27, 2026, and became “OpenClaw” just days later. It is now stewarded by the OpenClaw Foundation. The software itself is free — what you pay for is hosting and the model credits the agent consumes.

Hostinger’s two OpenClaw options

Hostinger is one of the few hosts to offer OpenClaw both as a fully managed service and as a self-hosted option. They are genuinely different products aimed at different people:

  • Managed 1-click OpenClaw: no server, no Docker, no SSH. You deploy from your Hostinger dashboard and Hostinger says the agent can be running within about 60 seconds. It includes a visual interface plus CLI access, Telegram/WhatsApp pairing, pre-configured AI credits, web search, agentic email, and managed security, updates, and backups in an isolated container.
  • Self-hosted OpenClaw on VPS: a KVM VPS with a one-click OpenClaw Docker template (hPanel: VPS → Manage Server → Docker Manager → Catalog → OpenClaw → Deploy). You get full root access and manage updates, security, and messaging-bridge configuration yourself.

One detail worth knowing: a single managed subscription also includes Hermes Agent — you can switch between OpenClaw and Hermes Agent from tabs in the hPanel dashboard at any time, with no separate purchase. The same managed plan also covers n8n and Paperclip; you pick one app to start and switch whenever you like.

The trade-off is the classic one: convenience versus control. The managed plan hides everything you don’t want to think about; the VPS route gives you everything you might want to touch. If you already run a Hostinger VPS for other projects, the Docker template is a natural fit. If you just want an agent that answers your WhatsApp messages, the managed plan is the honest answer.

Pricing: what OpenClaw actually costs on Hostinger

The managed “AI automation” plan covers OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, n8n, and Paperclip under one subscription — you can switch between apps at any time. Current pricing renders below from our deals table; Hostinger also lists a 12-month term and a month-to-month option at higher rates, and the plan renews at the standard renewal price. Heavier usage can require additional credit top-ups, so treat the headline price as a starting point, not a guaranteed total.

The self-hosted route uses standard KVM VPS pricing. Hostinger’s documentation suggests KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM) as the comfortable minimum for browser skills or running multiple agents; KVM 1 works for lighter setups. You pay for the server plus whatever your model usage costs.

Reminder: OpenClaw the software is free and open-source. Both prices above are hosting; the agent’s thinking still costs model credits or an API subscription on top. Hostinger’s managed plan includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.

AI credits explained: the cost most people miss

Managed OpenClaw uses two credit types, per Hostinger’s AI FAQ: nexos.ai credits for running language models, and Oxylabs credits for web search and data extraction. Credits come pre-integrated — you don’t need an OpenAI or Anthropic account or API key to start. You buy and top up credits from the Hostinger dashboard, and at checkout Hostinger offers “Ready-to-use AI” (default on, up to 100 nexos.ai credits) and “Instant web search” (1,000 free Oxylabs AI Studio credits) as add-ons.

Per Hostinger’s support article on nexos.ai credits (updated October 2026), example model costs per one million tokens are: Gemini 3 Flash 0.5 in / 3 out credits; GPT-4.1 2.2 / 8.8; Grok 4 3 / 15; Claude Sonnet 4.5 3.3 / 16.5; Claude Opus 4.6 5.5 / 27.5; Claude Opus 4 15 / 75. The credit balance is shared across all your OpenClaw agents. One cost to watch: the “heartbeat” feature wakes the agent roughly every 30 minutes by default and consumes credits even when idle — you can reduce this with a longer interval or a lighter model in the gateway settings. We could not find a published USD price for the nexos.ai credit packs at Hostinger checkout, so we are not printing one: check the live cart before you buy, or bring your own API key.

Two ways around per-token billing: connect your own ChatGPT Plus/Pro subscription via OAuth in hPanel (flat-rate, no per-token billing), or paste your own OpenAI/Anthropic API key at onboarding and skip “Ready-to-use AI” entirely.

Setup: managed 1-click route

Per Hostinger’s official managed-OpenClaw setup guide (updated roughly three weeks before we checked it on October 9, 2026):

  1. Buy the AI automation plan — from the OpenClaw section in your dashboard’s left sidebar, or via Hostinger’s AI automation page.
  2. Choose your term and add-ons (“Ready-to-use AI” / nexos.ai credits; “Instant web search” / Oxylabs credits).
  3. If you skipped “Ready-to-use AI”, paste your own API key during onboarding.
  4. Connect WhatsApp (QR code via WhatsApp → Settings → Linked Devices), Telegram (via a BotFather token), or a Hostinger Email address — all from the Hostinger dashboard, no OpenClaw dashboard needed.
  5. The system prepares the environment; click OpenClaw to open the interface or copy the Access key token. Send “Hi” in the chat to start the AI’s onboarding interview.

Day-to-day management happens at hPanel → the OpenClaw section, where tabs let you switch between OpenClaw and Hermes Agent. A “Hostinger Connector” (Settings → Connect) also lets the agent manage your Hostinger VPS, domains, DNS, email, and billing through chat.

Setup: self-hosted VPS route

If you’d rather run OpenClaw on your own server, the path is (per community guides, consistent across sources):

  1. Get a KVM VPS — KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM) is the comfortable minimum for browser skills or multiple agents.
  2. In hPanel: VPS → Manage Server → Docker Manager → Catalog → search “OpenClaw” → Deploy.
  3. Save the gateway token shown after deployment.
  4. Add your AI provider API key (or connect nexos.ai credits).
  5. Connect Telegram or WhatsApp and configure any skills you want.

From here, everything is yours to manage: updates, security patches, backups, and recovery are on you. That is the price of full control.

Who should pick which option?

Pick managed 1-click if: you want an AI agent in your messaging apps this afternoon, you don’t want to learn Docker or SSH, you like the idea of switching between OpenClaw, Hermes, and n8n under one subscription, and you prefer predictable billing with support handling the infrastructure.

Pick the VPS route if: you already manage servers, you want root access and full control over versions and data, you run multiple agents or heavy browser skills, or you want to use your own API keys and billing directly. If you start managed and change your mind, Hostinger offers one free migration from Managed OpenClaw to a VPS (KVM 1) within 30 days of purchase.

A note on marketing claims: Hostinger’s product page says “100,000+ agents already deployed”. That is Hostinger’s own claim and we could not verify it independently, so treat it as marketing, not a fact.

FAQ

The OpenClaw software is free and open-source under the MIT license. What costs money is hosting (Hostinger’s managed plan or a VPS) and the model usage — either nexos.ai credits or your own API keys / ChatGPT subscription.

Managed OpenClaw runs in a Hostinger-managed isolated container with a visual interface, pre-integrated AI credits, and managed updates, security, and backups — no root access, no server skills needed. The VPS route gives you a Docker template on your own KVM server with full root access, where you manage everything yourself.

Yes. One managed AI-automation subscription covers OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, n8n, and Paperclip, and you can switch between apps from tabs in the hPanel dashboard at any time with no separate purchase. Note that switching starts the new app fresh — configurations don’t transfer, and Hostinger does not offer a migration between Managed OpenClaw and Managed Hermes specifically.

nexos.ai credits are Hostinger’s pre-integrated way to pay for language-model usage — no OpenAI/Anthropic account or API key required. They come bundled at checkout (“Ready-to-use AI”, up to 100 credits). You don’t strictly need them: you can connect a ChatGPT Plus/Pro subscription via OAuth or paste your own API key instead. Watch the heartbeat feature — it consumes credits roughly every 30 minutes even when the agent is idle.

Hostinger’s documentation points to KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM) as the comfortable minimum, especially for browser skills or running multiple agents. KVM 1 works for lighter setups with cloud models.

Hostinger’s standard 30-day money-back guarantee applies to the managed AI automation plan. If you buy managed and want full control later, you also get one free migration from Managed OpenClaw to a VPS (KVM 1) within 30 days of purchase. For current coupon options, see our OpenClaw coupon page.

If agents interest you more broadly, compare with n8n hosting on Hostinger for workflow automation, or look at Hostinger’s VPS plans if you want the self-hosted route for any of these tools.
